I live to integrate faith and human development in pursuit of the dream.
I'm one of those almost-middle-aged guys who still can't decide what he wants to be when he grows up! I am the pastor of Tallmadge Community Church in Grand Rapids, MI (I have been an ordained minister in the Wesleyan Church since 1995). I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in Michigan (have been since 1994). I hold a B.S. in Christian Ministries from Indiana Wesleyan University, an M.A. in Community and Agency Counseling from Western Michigan University, and a Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision from WMU. I also teach as many classes as I possibly can at Cornerstone University, also in Grand Rapids.
I'm also the unbelievably blessed husband of my awesome wife Cathy and dad to my two kids, Becca and Andy.
As for my Christian experience, there is a depth to this journey that I'm just beginning to grapple with. Faith is, at the same time, the very core of who I am, and an inexplainable mystery. I find myself more and more humbled by God's incredible grace, and grateful that it's extended to me.
What I like (a lot): football, fantasy football, hockey, fantasy hockey, coffee (though not necessarily in that order). I love most any alternative music, ranging from R.E.M. to The Killers, and from Edie Brickell to Sixpence None The Richer. My favorite authors include Malcolm Gladwell (Tipping Point; Blink), Richard Foster (Celebration of Discipline; Prayer: Finding the Heart's True Home), Os Guinness (The Call), and Brennan Manning (Ragamuffin Gospel). I don't much care for bagpipe music, election year ads, bad coffee, or people who think they've got God all figured out.
